Hello everyone,
today I’ll share with you a quick update on our planning to meet in person, a trip to Devcon in November, and an interesting chart that illustrates roughly how we all are involved with Deep Work.
How we contribute to Deep Work
Many people have asked me “How big is the Deep Work team?“, assuming “team“ refers to full-time employees. Since as a collective of freelancers, it’s impossible to answer the question, I tried to find a way to quantify and display our contributions:
You can see how many projects you have contributed to, and how many contributions (tasks or roles) you had so far. This chart shows all contributions since 2022. I also created a text-based dashboard you can play around with and filter by last activity:
You can find both dashboards here. Please let me know if you can think of any other questions about the cohesion of our community. I’ll try to create a visualization!
IRL meetup options
Coworking in June/July/August
Justina and I have been considering renting a house to hang out and co-work. If you haven’t voted yet, please do it here. I started looking at Spain and contacted the team behind Liminal Web (they set up this place) in Italy. If we aim for June/July/August, it might be challenging to find something in Spain due to the high season, but we’re looking at options. Let us know if you have ideas in the discord channel.
Devcon 2024
Deep Work has a nice opportunity to host design-related sessions at Devcon this year. Like last time, there will be a “design hub“ (a room dedicated to design) and we have a lot of autonomy in shaping it. Let me know if you are interested in coming, presenting, or workshopping and I’ll loop you into our planning conversation. Our goal is to bring user-focused design closer to developers and founders.
Using Deep Teams for Reputation
After a few conversations here in Japan (thanks to Jane for the feedback), I noticed that we could use Deep Teams to capture collective contributions in volunteering projects within other organizations. Usually, these contributions go unnoticed or receive a low-credibility mention in a CV. But depending on the skill, a peer-verified record confirmed by a high-responsibility stakeholder can significantly increase trust in a skillset.

I’m still experimenting with it, but if you can think of a project you’ve worked on with other people (within or outside of Deep Work), you can submit any team-based contribution here and I’ll manually add it to Deep Teams to add to your profile. Remember that I will seek approval of your submission by the other team members you mention to strengthen the record.
Partnerships
Finally, as a brief update on our business development, Savannah and I are discussing connecting Deep Work’s services to portfolio companies of value-aligned funds. I can’t share any more details yet because we have made no agreements yet, but generally, the responses are very positive. I am also receiving feedback that our approach of bringing “the human part“ and “psychological stuff“ into organizations is in high demand.
That’s it for today, thank you for your feedback, ideas, and motivation. It’s very refreshing to work with you!
