That's so kind of you, thank you so much for sharing your perspective! Setting aside focused time independently seems like something individuals would do for themselves, bring up in conversation or observe each other, and when there is overlapping interest among participants, it can become a foundational elemement. So in December I mostly had 1:1 conversations to understand what would everyone do and care about independently (also collected these thoughts in a survey), and then brought the overlaps into the written summary. Then in a dedicated session where we co-create the rough schedule we can see the overlaps, and already highlight them. In our case, focused sessions for deep work fell in the morning hours.

I hope this makes sense, it's a bit difficult to describe but a good question to unravel.

Regarding the secret gift, credit for the idea goes to Taka, who has worked in HR and suggested non-monetary incentives to find participants. I also came across a similar thought in Cynefin's online material, as a way of incentivising diverse teams in solution-seeking to a complex problem.
